The major MiECTiS event, the 3rd MiECT Symposium took place in Bern, Switzerland at June 21st-23rd, 2018. President of the Symposium Professor Thierry Carrel summarized:
“During the last years, innovative advances in minimally invasive extracorporeal technologies have provided new opportunities for the development of cardiac surgery treatment strategies. Current topics in heart surgery and technologies in extracorporeal circulation were addressed by international participants at the Ettore Rossi Auditorium of the University Hospital in Berne, Switzerland. Over the course of two days, a diverse programme offered attendees the opportunity to participate in a high-quality platform focused on current topics in heart surgery and technologies in extracorporeal circulation. The Symposium also fostered interdisciplinary interactions, affording opportunities to connect with former colleagues, meet new ones, and to spend time with friends”.
The Symposium was attended by a multidisciplinary audience of 120 participants (cardiac surgeons, perfusionists, cardiac anesthesiologists and researchers). Lectures and discussion focused on state-of-the-art perfusion techniques, cerebral perfusion, myocardial and end-organ protection, coagulation and inflammation. Terumo and Medtronic organized Satellite
Symposia that attracted the interest of the participants.
